Trade Finance: A Banker’s Perspective

The Departments of Foreign Trade Management and Financial Studies organized a guest lecture on the subject of trade finance on 20th August 2010 in the A.V.Hall to equip the students with the know-how of trade finance and its various facets. The guest speaker for the session was Mr. Neeraj Jain, Vice President, Axis Bank Ltd.
He explained the concept of foreign trade and execution of daily trade transactions by a banker, thereby highlighting the role of a Bank in Foreign Exchange Transactions and its impact on the economy.
He highlighted the differences between Free trade, Restrictive trade and Negative trade; thereby discussing the various bills like Bill of Lading, Airway bill, and Builty, mentioning the various documents an exporter should have in order to negotiate with any Authorised Dealer.
The interesting concept of Foreign Packing Credit and INR packing credit was also discussed. The lecture concluded with a Question Answer session. The students gained a lot of insight about the practical implications of export documentation and procedures.
