Seminar on ‘Foreign Trade Policy and Procedures’ in joint collaboration with Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry
Department of Foreign Trade Management joined hands with the office of Directorate General of Foreign trade (DGFT) to organize a seminar on Foreign Trade Policy and Procedures on 21st February 2012 under Niryat Bandhu Scheme of DGFT. 245 students of the university participated in the same. Eminent speakers from the Customs department, DGFT, ECGC, MSME and RBI updated the gathering on the latest facilities being offered by the respective departments towards promotion of trade.
The seminar deliberated on topics like Foreign Trade Policy as an instrument of export promotion, export promotion schemes of Customs on Duty Drawback, MSME schemes for exporters, statutory banking requirements for export, risk coverage for exports, etc.
Pointing out the two laws of marketing - Differentiate or Die and Innovate or Evaporate - the joint DGFT stated that US, EU and Japan, which were the engines of growth earlier, are no more the same, although they have a major role to play. There is a need to look for alternative markets for Indian products. He advised exporters for using the latest technology to increase production and improve the quality and avail benefits of liberalized policies of the Central and State Governments. He was, however, concerned about the huge gap in demand and supply of power and at the same high power cost in India as compared to the neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Cambodia, Vietnam and China.
The seminar provided a platform for the interface between the budding exporters and the government departments working towards promotion of exports from the state.
Various issues pertaining to foreign trade policy and procedures were discussed in the open house with the joint DGFT in Jaipur.
The seminar proved to be a handholding programme for young entrepreneurs in the offing aspiring to start their international business enterprises.
